The slaying of the pig
This Christmas custom is very old and widely spread.
The pig is slain on Christmas Eve, on the first day of Christmas or even on the second day. In Neamt, during the 2 days before the slaying the pigs aren’t fed anything else except salted water so their intestines are clean. In some villages in Dolj the pig is slain over night so that in the morning everything is ready. When the pig is stabbed everyone around him crosses themselves to be healthy all year round. After the pig is dead the singing is prepared, then the cleaning and portioning of the pig. The neighbors who helped with the pig are also invited to the feast.
